Generative AI is all the rage these days and we're being told left and right that we'll all lose our jobs, that the robot apocalypse is near - or that it doesn't work at all in real life. In this talk on the basics of AI, we'll explore what AI is and how it really works, so we can form a more educated opinion on what, if anything, we should be worried about.

Higher Education in times of AI – how will this affect PBL?

If we trust what both developers and researchers predict, the influence of AI will continue to grow in higher education over the next years and will go far beyond the implementation of generative tools like ChatGPT. To prepare for this, we must ask the following: What will an AI-entangled higher education look like in the future? In this presentation, Antonia Scholkmann suggests some starting points for a discussion on how our PBL practices will change when AI becomes a pedagogical partner and how we can find creative spaces for integrating AI while staying true to the values of PBL pedagogies.

Teaching with generative AI in social sciences

Presentation of study of students’ use of generative AI at AAU

During the autumn semester of 2023, IAS PBL conducted a study of how students are using generative AI at AAU. The results of this study are presented by IAS PBL student intern, Anders Skytte.

Generative AI from a student lens

This presentation is based on the preliminary findings from a study investigating IT-focused engineering students' experiences with and attitudes towards the utilization of text-based generative AI for individual and group-based purposes at AAU. It emphasizes that students are incorporating this technology into their ecology of learning tools, showcasing diverse and often creative adoption. While the students are generally reflective and critical, there is a clear call for support and guidance to navigate the integration of AI responsibly. 

Collaboration, problem-solving, and the role of GenAI from a Student Lens

This presentation takes its point of departure in the broader role of technology in the orchestration of student project work at AAU and zooms in on the disruptive role of text-based GenAI in relation to student collaboration and problem-solving.
